Sports North - Blazers Equipment Drive

Written by OntFast Tuesday, 05 May 2009 08:00

Brampton Girls Softball Association are asking you to join them to promote softball (and other sports) in Northern Communities. Please ask your players to bring unused sporting equipment with them this weekend to the Early Bird Blazer Blast Tournament. It will be distributed to aboriginal communities in the north who desperately need this equipment to allow their youth to participate in sport.

If every team contributes 2 gloves, 2 helmets and a bat we can outfit 8 teams in these areas of need. Encourage all your players and parents to look through their closets, garages and basements to support this program.

We would also solicit the support from the many fans that will be attending this tournament who would like to participate in this highly valued initiative.

There will be a collection area set up at the Brampton Fairgrounds on McMurchy. It's worth the drive to the Fairgrounds, wherever you may be playing, to see some of the best teams in Canada as well as helping spread and promote the game in Ontario.

Please see the attached flyer and forward it to your team and any interested parties.

A great story of sportsmanship and courage which is at the essence of the game and the participants. It's a little long (about 6 min.), but it's great story and well worth watching.

janna haganOshawa, Ont. – Women’s fastball head coach Jim Nemish and the Durham College Athletic Department is proud to announce that Janna Hagan will be joining the program next fall.

Hagan, a native of Sherwood Park, Alberta, joins the Lords after an impressive 12 year minor fastball career out west with the Sherwood Park Belles.

It is anticipated that Hagan will both pitch and play the outfield for the Lords next season. At the plate, she is a feared slugger who hits for power and average. Last season, she finished the year with a .393 batting average and a slugging percentage of .538. She also led the team in RBI’s with 31 on the season. On the mound, Hagan has dominated opposing batters as she can throw a variety of pitches while reaching 56-58 mph on the radar gun.

Hagan also has plenty of experience playing at the provincial and national level, going on to win a number of awards.
