Women's softball booster, coach retiresHamilton's Doug Parry first went to bat for women's university fastpitch almost nine years ago. Now, as the umpires say, he's outta there.
A driving force in the formation of the Ontario Intercollegiate Women's Fastpitch Association, coach Parry recently announced his retirement in an e-mail to the McMaster players.
"I caught a lot of people by surprise," he said yesterday. "I did some self-evaluation of my lifestyle. I've come to a time when I have to step back a bit."
Parry, 59, will be stepping down as coach of both the McMaster squad and the intermediate Brantford Lady Red Sox of the Provincial Women's Softball Association.
"Everything is on solid footing now," Parry said of the Ontario university league. "It's a good time to get somebody else involved. New ideas and a different style of coaching."
