Great Britain Softball Team

Written by OntFast Tuesday, 08 December 2009 17:31

YOUR ONLINE VOTE CAN HELP THE GREAT BRITAIN WOMEN'S SOFTBALL TEAM GET TO THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS!

The Great Britain Women's Fastpitch Softball Team earned a place in the 2010 Softball World Championships by finishing second in European Championships this past summer, the team's highest-ever European placing.

But the team receives no public funding because softball is no longer an Olympic sport. Players and staff had to pay their own way to compete for their country at the European Championships, but the cost of competing in the World Championships, which will probably be held in North America, is beyond what the players and their families can afford.

So the team has entered a British Airways contest called “Great Britons”, where the prize could be 16 desperately-needed free flights that can get the players and staff to the World Championships. Now the team has now been shortlisted along with seven other entries, and the winner will be determined by public vote.

So please go online to
http://www.greatbritons.ba.com/shortlists and cast your vote for the GB Women's Team entry submitted by first base player MORGAN PARKERSON.

Just click on Morgan's name on the Judges' Shortlist and then hit the VOTE NOW button under Morgan's photo. You'll need to do a quick registration, and then you can vote.

And then please get everyone you know and everyone you can reach by way of Facebook, MySpace, Twitter etc to vote as well!

Winning this contest could make all the difference between the GB Women's Softball Team being able to go to the World Championships and having to turn down its place.
Thanks very much for your help!

Written by OntFast Thursday, 10 December 2009 19:05

Softball Ontario is now accepting applications for the position of Regional Fast Pitch Pitching Instructor for Softball Canada's new CANpitch Program. CANpitch is Softball Canada's national pitching program created to provide a nationally standardize curriculum based on Softball Canada's Long-Term Player Development framework to introduce and develop the skill of windmill pitching to children. The primary objective of the program is to provide a vehicle to enhance the development of pitching skills and knowledge for both players and coaches across Canada especially at the grassroots level, (where players and coaches have little to no experience in pitching).

The primary role of Softball Ontario’s Regional Pitching Instructor (RPI) is to be the pitching expert in their host location within Ontario. Regional Pitching Instructors will receive instruction and support from Softball Ontario’s two Master Pitching Instructors (MPIs) through mentoring and professional development opportunities. Regional Pitching Instructors will deliver the CANpitch Program through out Ontario.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Commit to a minimum of two (2) years to the program
• Deliver at least one 6-week training session to participants at the grassroots level (ages 6-12)
• Submit a Police Records Check to Softball Ontario prior to working with participants
• Attend a bi-annual training session hosted by Softball Ontario
• Communicate on a regular basis with MPI and Softball Ontario about CANpitch
• Provide feedback about the Program in regards to format, content and delivery
• Provide recommendations for revisions to Softball Canada through Softball Ontario and the MPIs
• Assist Softball Ontario and MPIs in writing an annual report for Softball Canada providing data about the program and summarizing the feedback from participants, parents and coaches regarding CANpitch
• Promote CANpitch to local softball associations in their area

Experience in pitching a requirement; Coaching experience is an asset.

Each Regional Pitching Instructor will be compensated for their time at a reasonable hourly rate. Expenses such as meals, mileage and accommodations, if necessary, will also be covered at both the Regional Pitching Instructor training sessions and regular 6-week training session that they will be delivering.

Those who are interested in becoming a Softball Ontario Regional Fast Pitch Pitching Instructor please send in a letter of interest along with a letter outlining your fast pitch pitching experience to Carly Laxton at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or fax (416) 426-7368 by December 29th, 2009. If you are interested in becoming an RPI, please forward your information to Softball Ontario.

In the coming weeks Softball Ontario will collect and evaluate all applications, and choose candidates for approval by the Softball Ontario Pitching Committee. All candidates should be prepared to attend the Greater Toronto Area full-day training session on January 16th!!
